HACC’s CARE Center: Student Support and Resources

CARE Center logo

We are committed to supporting our students' well-being and success. While HACC’s primary focus is providing a high-quality, affordable education, we understand that students may need additional assistance outside the classroom to thrive academically.

HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, established the Consultation, Advocacy, Referrals, and Empowerment (CARE) Center as a central resource for students seeking help with non-academic challenges. This free service is available to all current HACC students.

Our dedicated staff at the CARE Center connect students with college and community resources to assist with the following:

Child care

  • Students may be referred to the KEYS Program for access to the Early Learning Resource Center and financially subsidized child care, or students are referred to community-based resources according to their region.
  • Child care options are available at HACC’s Harrisburg and Lancaster campuses.

Food

  • The CARE Center maintains a directory of local food pantries, food banks, and distribution centers within HACC’s service area. Coordinators provide students with information and referrals to these resources.

Health Care

  • The CARE Center collaborates with hospitals and clinics to help students access medical care. Coordinators provide referrals to low-cost and pro-bono healthcare services whenever possible.

Housing

  • The CARE Center maintains a database of local shelters and housing assistance agencies. Students in need of housing support are connected with these resources.

Mental health services

  • If a coordinator meets with a student who is in crisis and requires mental health treatment, the coordinator refers the student to hacc.edu/mentalhealth.

Social services

  • Students in need of social service assistance, such as Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), are referred to the KEYS Program for guidance.

Transportation

  • CARE Center staff work with the College’s bookstore to help students obtain public transportation bus passes.

HACC remains dedicated to providing high-quality student services regardless of location.
