Academic Advising
Academic Advisors will be available for scheduled appointments and weekly drop-in meetings.
Important Note: Winter break begins at 4:30 p.m. on December 20th and the college will be closed until January 2nd.
What is an Academic Advisor?
Advisor Responsibilities:
You can expect your advisor to:
- Be available, approachable and respectful
- Encourage and support students as they develop realistic goals and attainable educational plans
- Be efficient and accurate when discussing program requirements
- Discuss student’s academic performance and its impact on future goals
- Maintain confidentiality
- Be knowledgeable about college resources, support services and opportunities;
Student Responsibilities:
As a student you have responsibilities in this advising partnership in order to make it successful.
- Be respectful of their advisor
- Schedule appointments with their advisor, be on time and come prepared for appointments
- Check Hawkmail regularly and become familiar with Navigate and Degree Works.
- Ask questions and keep lines of communication open
- Familiarize yourself with the academic calendar and be aware of important deadlines.
- Follow through on suggested actions, resources, or referrals
- Keep contact information up-to-date (email, phone numbers, address)
Make an Academic Advising Appointment
You can schedule an appointment with your advisor in Navigate. Meetings can be in-person and via Zoom
- Download the Navigate app or use desktop version
- Log in using your student account.
- If this is your first login, complete the intake survey.
- Select the Appointments tab.
- To meet with your assigned advisor), click My Team.
- To schedule an appointment with any available success coach, click Schedule Appointment and choose Advising Services as the appointment type

Why should you make an appointment rather than drop in?

Drop-in Advising Service Offered in-person and via Zoom

- Sessions scheduled for 30-45 minutes.
- Long-term educational planning discussed in detail such as:
- Graduation
- Major requirements
- Career exploration
- Academic difficulty, etc.
- Goals and long-term planning
- Customized, individualized success plan
- Completion of FS assignments

- Sessions limited to 15 minutes
- First-come, first-serve basis. You may have to wait, and wait times increase close to registration deadlines.
- Current semester planning only. Services are limited to:
- Registration assistance
- Course changes/canceled courses
- Course and prerequisite overrides

The schedule does change depending on the time of year so check this webpage frequently.
- Thursdays
- Campus Hours: 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
- Zoom Hours: 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
- Important Note: Winter break begins at 4:30 p.m. on December 20th and the college will be closed until January 2nd.
- Please note that students are seen for drop-in appointments on a first-come, first-served basis, and wait times may vary.

- To drop in via Zoom, sign in from your computer or tablet (phones are not recommended)
New Students should ensure they have completed their onboarding steps including:
- completion of placement testing if applicable
- submission of FAFSA form if applicable
- submission of official HS or GED transcripts
- submission of any college-level transcripts for credit evaluation if applicable
- completion of Level Up prior to accessing advising for advising and registration
- check your HACC e-mail for communication on how to submit these items to complete your steps
Scheduling an Appointment or coming to Drop-ins
- Placement testing must be completed or transcripts submitted before speaking with an advisor.
- Appointments can also be scheduled through the Navigate student app.
- Advising/Alternate PINs cannot be given over the phone, and require a meeting with an advisor by Zoom, by appointment or during in-person drop-in times.
- Due to Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) regulations, we can only release academic information to the student.
