Weather Announcements

Weather Announcement

When we experience inclement weather or other emergencies, HACC may issue one or more of the following messages. Because of limited character length, our messages through e2Campus and social media (for example) will provide critical and abbreviated information and direct you to visit this webpage for more details.

Below, you will find information about:

  • Frequently asked questions
  • Weather announcement processes during COVID-19
  • Weather announcement processes before COVID-19

If you cannot find your answer below and have additional questions or suggestions, please submit the online form on hacc.edu/Coronavirus.

This information relates to questions that HACC students and employees frequently ask. We share them with you for your convenience.

  • The College’s operating schedule will be updated as needed based on weather conditions and other emergencies. In the case of inclement weather, regardless of the decision, all students and employees should use their own judgment to determine whether or not it is safe to travel. Please keep your instructors or supervisor informed.
  • Please visit hacc.edu/Weather for additional details.
  • Announcements are added to the website homepage immediately. Frequently clearing the cache on your browser will allow new announcements to appear. You also can try changing browsers.
  • When classes are cancelled due to inclement weather, other HACC-related events and appointments also are cancelled.
  • When making the closing or delay decisions, we do take into consideration a number of factors, including road conditions, the condition of our parking lots and what other schools are doing. We are also sensitive to the faculty's request to hold classes when possible so that material for courses can be covered during the term. Balancing all of these concerns, we do our best to make decisions that will positively impact the largest number of students and employees.
  • The team that makes the inclement weather-related decisions is comprised of the College president, provost and other members of the Cabinet (as selected by the College president).
  • Online classes operate as normal during weather-related events. We understand this can cause unanticipated child care, work or other personal challenges. HACC asks professors to use their discretion in enforcing assignment deadlines.
  • The employee handbook addresses the College’s leave policy during inclement weather.

During the coronavirus pandemic, fall 2021 classes will be taught through in-person instruction, remote instruction and virtual learning, and select student services will be available on campus.

Therefore, if there is a weather announcement regarding campus closures, it will only affect employees and students involved in on-campus classes and services. All other remote work, remote instruction and virtual learning courses will continue as scheduled.

Please note that this is not a comprehensive list of messages and thus the list is subject to change as necessary.

Please Note: The College will not use a delayed-opening schedule. Students approved for the hands-on components of their course need the entire scheduled time. Therefore, depending on the amount of inclement weather, the approved on-campus courses will either be held or rescheduled. The College is building make-up days into the spring 2022 on-campus plans.
