Many of us want to break the cycle of poverty, but we may not know where to start. The Breaking the Cycle of Poverty in the Lancaster Community Project through HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College, provides a straightforward way to contribute to ending poverty in Lancaster County.
A 2019 U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics report found that employment in healthcare occupations is expected to grow much faster than the average for all occupations. On top of this anticipated job growth, the global coronavirus pandemic created hardships for the healthcare industry when many frontline workers retired or exited the field due to COVID-induced stress. Because of this, the need for skilled healthcare workers is more pronounced today than years ago.
To keep the Lancaster area healthcare workforce vibrant and strong, we need HACC-trained students to staff these open positions.
This project will allow HACC to offer skills training, such as Medical Assistant/Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), Nurse Aide, Pharmacy Technician and Phlebotomy Technician programs, at HACC's Lancaster Campus and other Lancaster locations. Each program will provide pathways to additional certifications and/or career advancement.
Entry-level training opportunities to historically underrepresented, underserved and minority residents living within Lancaster County will allow participants to obtain in-demand, stable health care jobs with family-sustaining wages and benefits, thus breaking the cycle of poverty. Please give to this project today. Thank you!
