Many of us want to break the cycle of poverty, but we might not know where to start. The Breaking the Cycle of Poverty in the Harrisburg City Community Project through HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College, provides a straightforward way to contribute to ending poverty in Dauphin County.

2019 U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics report found that employment in healthcare occupations is expected to grow much faster than the average for all occupations. On top of this anticipated job growth, the global coronavirus pandemic created hardships for the healthcare industry when many frontline workers retired or exited the field due to COVID-induced stress. Because of this, the need for skilled healthcare workers is more pronounced today than years ago.

To keep the Harrisburg area healthcare workforce vibrant and strong, we need HACC-trained students to staff these open positions.

This project will allow HACC to offer skills training, such as Pharmacy Technician and Phlebotomy Technician programs, at the Harrisburg High School John Harris Campus to students, graduates and community members. Each program will provide pathways to additional certifications and/or career advancement.

Entry-level training opportunities to historically underrepresented, underserved and minority residents living within Harrisburg School District will allow participants to obtain in-demand, stable healthcare jobs with family-sustaining wages and benefits, thus breaking the cycle of poverty. Please give to this project today. Thank you!
