Fund for Excellence for Public Safety Training
About the Fund
The Senator John J. Shumaker Public Safety Center (PSC) at HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, provides premier public safety training in Central Pennsylvania and beyond. HACC is a trusted regional training partner, impacting the lives of people throughout the College’s 11-county service region who have been rescued by brave first responders. The Fund for Excellence for Public Safety Training will enhance first responder training – including emergency medical services (EMS), law enforcement, urban search and rescue and fire – by funding innovative approaches to training and industry-standard equipment upgrades.
With YOUR support, HACC could purchase equipment and technology to keep pace with changing best practices and requirements. Technology is ever changing, and the College needs the resources to respond quickly with innovative programming to ensure that our graduates can immediately enter the workforce or take on volunteer positions equipped with the skills they need to succeed.
Now YOU can help HACC’s public safety students by supporting initiatives like:
- Live Fire Burn Sessions – Firefighters need continuous training to ensure they are prepared for dangerous situations. Funding could allow firefighters to utilize the burn building for live-fire evolutions.
- New Outdoor Firing Range – A new outdoor firing range will allow HACC to expand its capacity to facilitate training opportunities for municipal police departments, and develop youth firearm training programs.
- Secondary Structural Burn Stations – These modular structural burn stations will integrate multiple simulation components, including Konex boxes, forcible entry mechanisms and roof ventilation simulators.
- Interdisciplinary Integrative Training Area – An enclosed training area will facilitate interdisciplinary, integrative training in vehicle rescue, defensive tactics and mass casualty care for police, fire and EMS.
YOU can help ensure that our region has a steady flow of highly trained first responders to protect our communities. For more information, please contact the HACC Foundation at firstname.lastname@example.org.
