Coming to HACC for nursing was something of a legacy decision for Olivia. She said, “I chose HACC because of the reputation of its nursing program. I also am following in my aunt’s footsteps as she graduated from HACC’s RN program in the 80s. She is now a nurse practitioner and encouraging me to pursue my dream career as well.”
Olivia shared some words of wisdom for students who may be nervous about starting college: “Act confident until you feel confident. Also, know that everyone else is just as nervous as you. Give yourself some time to adjust.”
Olivia overcame tremendous challenges before reaching this point in her life. She shared that years ago, she was homeless and living in a shelter. “This was a low point of my life but due to the grace of God and some hard work and determination, I was able to come out of that situation and be the better for it,” she said. “I feel strongly now that there are very few challenges I can’t overcome!”
After Olivia completes her HACC education, she plans to earn a Bachelor of Science in nursing and “maybe work as a wound care nurse.”
