Meet Melissa: Culinary Arts Student

“[HACC] was convenient and offered online courses that I can do on my own time!”
Melissa said that entering college in her 40s “felt like a bigger task than I was willing to take on," but the welcoming and helpful HACC faculty “kept me motivated and encouraged!” She said, “I am very grateful at all the help I received especially when it came to deciding my major!”
Melissa is enrolled in HACC’s Culinary Arts Program, and her goal is to eventually open her own Mexican cuisine restaurant with recipes passed down from generation to generation.
Courses in the Culinary Arts Program involve a lot of hands-on learning, from knife skills to preparing food and foundational cooking techniques. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Melissa was able to continue the program online. Melissa said that she chose HACC because “It was convenient and offered online courses that I can do on my own time!”
