Meet Mariia: International Alumna
“As education is no longer perceived as a privilege, but an expectation, I think a lot of young students forget how lucky they are to be able to get a good-quality education in an American college.”
Mariia Anosova, a HACC alumna, came from Ukraine to be an exchange student at Mechanicsburg High School. She said that she discovered HACC thanks to the help of her American family and friends. That gave her the “opportunity to turn my life around and head for the brighter future.”
She enrolled in HACC’s Nursing Program, got a job as an office assistant in the Center for Global Education and was a student worker in the library. While a student, Mariia described the benefits of HACC’s diverse student body like this: “Initially, it allowed me to grow more and more open minded and accepting. Now, a broad circle of friends with multicultural backgrounds enriches me with the knowledge and unique experiences every day.”
Mariia successfully earned her degree in 2014. She works as a registered nurse at the Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.
“If I had to give advice it would be…stay motivated and work hard, remember that not everybody is as fortunate as you are and try to give back to the community as much as you can.”
