Meet Lauren: Eager to Give Back
Date published: July 28, 2021
Lauren studies political science at HACC and takes most of her classes online. HACC was her choice due to its affordability and transfer options. Lauren said, “As a single mother of four children, I finally have the confidence that I can be successful and provide for my family, as well as be a great role model for my children for what hard work can bring and the importance of education.”
She added, “I can show [my children] how important an education is, how hard work pays off, how team work makes the dream work...and that it’s never too late.”
Lauren said she has benefitted from the Keystone Education Yields Success (KEYS) Program. She said, “The KEYS program is a Godsend. They really helped me and I’m very grateful. They are an incredible asset to HACC.”
Looking to the future, Lauren said she might consider running a program like KEYS herself someday. “I am eager to give back,” she said. “I want to be a public servant and do good for those who need it. I’m interested in law school, protecting civil rights and helping immigrants, but I am also growing fond of public policy the longer I am in this major.” Regardless of what path she takes, Lauren said she will be “helping people, as well as helping break the cycle of poverty.”
