“HACC is a huge family network like no other.”

Before deciding to pursue an Associate of Arts in social services, the decision to come to HACC was not one that Timothy made lightly.

“Literally, I printed and read over 350 pages of various engagements and opportunities,” he said. “HACC’s leadership, management, students’ expressions and my personal one-on-one interaction with two dynamic HACC employees pushed me to make my choice – a cool and correct choice.”

Additionally, Timothy had to overcome some initial feelings of hesitation. “Having been out of academia for over 32 years, I initially felt there was no way. But through discussions with God, my family, friends, colleagues and HACC staff, I took the leap of faith and never looked back nor regretted it at all,” he said.

He continued, “My fears were diminished and it is the best decision and investment I’ve ever made in my life, besides serving for my country.”

In fact, Timothy’s status as a veteran is something that continues to drive who he is. He said, “First, having honorably served my country was and will always push me to unselfishly maintain my ‘selfless service’ to both my fellow veterans and non-veterans too. That strong belief and compassion helped me to become the person who I am today.”

After graduating, Timothy plans to work for the VA Medical Center as a certified peer support specialist-leader and create his own 501(3)(c) non-profit to help others succeed.

In the meantime, Timothy is glad he chose the College. “HACC is a huge family network like no other. It's superior to attending to the needs of its student base regardless of the challenges that lie ahead.”

He continued, “To me, it is the very best education that any community college provides nationwide. HACC's motto, ‘Learning for all; learning for life,” is a life-changing objective that I personally embrace in my life each and every day.”
