“The common stigma of getting a bad education through a community college is completely false.”
Graduating from college is an accomplishment in itself, but through HACC’s Dual Enrollment program, Michael Riggs will graduate from HACC with an associate degree in general studies while still in high school!
Michael agrees with the #EndCCStigma campaign that is trending on social media. He said, “HACC provides a great education. The common stigma of getting a bad education through a community college is completely false.” He added that if HACC was not an option, he would be in a lot of debt and not be “ahead of the game with my education.”
He thanks Sara Maines, admissions counselor at the Gettysburg Campus, for keeping him grounded when he felt like his world was collapsing down around him.
“One of the biggest challenges that I have faced was finding out who I was,” Michael said. Through the great support system provided at HACC, Michael said he has been able to explore himself, become more independent and prepare to take the next step in his life.
After graduation, Michael is planning to transfer to Oklahoma State University to pursue a dual-major in animal science and agricultural education.
