“[HACC is] a great way for people to get a higher or continuing education at an affordable price without having to leave their community.”
July 2019: HACC’s Brewing Science Certificate Program continues to grow in popularity and gain recognition in Harrisburg and beyond. One of the program alumni, Johnny Roberts, said HACC definitely helped him gain knowledge to help grow his company. Johnny is a marketing coordinator for Isaac’s Restaurants.
In the Brewing Science Program, students learn everything about beer making – from food safety to microbiology all the way to developing and marketing a final product. Students work with beer aficionados in the region to gain hands-on experiences. Johnny said that what he liked most about HACC were the teachers and brewmasters, who were “very knowledgeable and gave us first-hand experience.”
Johnny said, “As part of my internship at Moo-Duck Brewery in Elizabethtown, Mike Brubaker, owner/head brewmaster, had me come up with a recipe for my own beer and then brew it. It was such a great experience!”
The beer that Johnny developed for Moo-Duck Brewery was called the Without Pretense Porter.
