Meet Alison: Surgical Technology Grad
Date published: June 17, 2021
Alison Meyers, a HACC alumna who earned her degree in surgical technology, beamed about HACC and her program in her Story Bank submission. She said, “HACC has a phenomenal [Surgical Technology] program in comparison to other school offerings in the area. The certification exam offering alone is enough to choose HACC but when you consider the pass rate and the amount of externship hours to prepare you for your career, the choice is easy!”
Financial assistance from HACC allowed Alison to go to college when she did not think it would be possible. “As a student with a large financial burden, I struggled with whether or not I could afford to get my degree,” she said. “It’s frustrating when you want to earn a degree to make a better living but can’t afford to get the degree. HACC has a large number of assistance programs and scholarships available to students that make that burden a lot less scary!” HACC’s tuition is also approximately 30% less than nearby four-year schools.
Alison received additional support from the HACC Foundation when she experienced a car and home emergency that could have prevented her from traveling to class and continuing her education. She said, “Because of the generosity of this fund and HACC as a whole, I intend to donate back once I am successfully established in my new career!”
Through difficult times, Alison said that HACC was a constant. “HACC has given me stability when everything around me has been in chaos,” she said.
