Meet Dennis: Human Services Student in York

“I came in to see what HACC was all about and to see if I can apply, next thing I know I was a student without realizing it.”

We asked Dennis Rivera what he likes about HACC and he said, “Nothing. I LOVE everything about HACC, especially the way the professors care and helped me out.”

Dennis is especially grateful to Professor Thayer at HACC’s York Campus, who he said did not let him quit and taught him to stop being his own worst enemy. “She opened me up to do lots of things I have never done in my whole life, like trusting people and asking for help.”

That “never give up” mentality is serving Dennis well as he pursues his associate degree in human services. He chose the major “to give back and also educate those who have family and friends that have an addiction problem.” Dennis’s future plans are to become a drug and alcohol counselor and open his own practice.

When asked about his greatest personal achievement, Dennis said, “That I decided to go to HACC.”
