Taking HACC Courses While in High School

HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, is the college of choice for students seeking to complete college-level courses while still in high school.

HACC provides an accessible and accredited learning experience. High school students can earn college credits while completing their requirements for a high school diploma and matriculate to HACC or other colleges of their choice after graduating from high school.

There are three options for high school juniors and seniors:

Steps to Apply

The same Admissions application needs to be completed for Dual Enrollment or College in the High School classes. (If you are taking both a Dual Enrollment and College in the High School course, you only need to complete one application.)

  1. Check with your school counselor to see if a HACC Application Day has been scheduled. At HACC Application Days, a HACC admissions professional comes to your school to walk you through the admissions process.

  2. Create an admissions application account online and apply to HACC. Select “Dual Enrollment” as the academic program (even if applying to the College in the High School Program). Be sure to select the correct entry term when you apply. The entry term is the semester you intend to start classes at HACC.
    1. Fall = August-December
    2. Spring = January-May
    3. Summer = May-August

  3. Activate your HACC Application Account. You will be asked to log into your personal email address to activate your account.

  4. Complete your dual enrollment admissions application.
    Please:
    1. Complete your application.
    2. Make sure you have your social security number with you to complete your application.
Click submit once you have finished completing your application.

  5. Complete and submit the Signature Page Form. The signature page is required to ensure all parties (student, parent or guardian and high school counselor) agree to a student’s participation in dual enrollment with HACC. The signature page is NOT a dual enrollment application. A direct link to the signature page is included in your dual enrollment application.

  6. Submit your high school transcript. A high school transcript can be:

    1. Uploaded and attached to the signature page by your school counselor
    2. Uploaded in the HACC application portal
    3. Emailed to admissionsrecords@hacc.edu

If HACC doesn’t have a FERPA release on file for you, HACC cannot release your student information to a parent or guardian, regardless of your age. Learn more about FERPA here →

  7. Activate your HAWKMail email address and myHACC Portal. Check your personal email account for an acceptance email with directions to activate your myHACC portal. This will also activate your Hawkmail email. Continue to check Hawkmail email regularly.

  8. Complete your multi-factor authentication when you log into your myHACC portal.  You may find detailed steps here.

  9. Complete Dual Enrollment New Student Orientation. Within 3-5 business days of activating your myHACC portal, you will receive an email about course eligibility and completing mandatory new student orientation online via Brightspace D2L or live via Zoom. Please follow all steps so you are ready to register for courses. Following orientation, next steps for course registration and tuition payment will take place.

If you would like a parent or guardian to contact HACC on your behalf, you must file a Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) release. Dual Enrollment or College in the High School students can add parent or guardian information on their HACC application or submit the FERPA release form.

We hope all of our dual enrollment students pursue HACC after high school graduation.

During spring semester of senior year (February-March), students will receive a Navigate survey to their Hawkmail email for HACC’s NEXT STEP

**Please do NOT complete a new application if you have taken dual enrollment classes.

Students will answer the survey and then will receive prompts via Navigate app to follow to move forward to continue at HACC. If students do not receive the survey, please connect with successcoach@hacc.edu

If it has been more than five years since your last HACC class, you must submit a new admissions application and follow the steps for a returning student

If you applied as a dual enrollment student but did NOT take any classes with HACC, please complete a new admissions application as a new student. An application fee will be applied.

HACC’s dual enrollment program is for juniors and seniors in high school. Students under 11th grade must follow additional steps to be considered for HACC college level courses:

  1. Complete HACC dual enrollment application
  2. Students will be accepted as provisional admissions and receive a letter to complete next steps.
    1. Students pursuing dual enrollment courses MUST take steps for English and math placement testing. Students will complete an interest form.
    2. Students pursuing College in the High School courses must meet eligibility for the course offered and have counselor support to pursue the course.
  3. Information will be reviewed to determine eligibility to move forward with HACC dual enrollment courses. If approved for dual enrollment, students will meet with the director before start of classes.

Any questions regarding underage admission should be directed to Ricole Jayman, director, student success coaching at rajayman@hacc.edu
