  John J. "Ski" Sygielski, MBA, Ed.D., became the seventh president and CEO of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, in July 2011. His previous appointments include president of Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, Oregon, and president of then-Lord Fairfax Community College (now named Laurel Ridge Community College) in Middletown, Virginia. He began his professional career as a teacher in a K-12 Catholic school in Chicago followed by a stint as a corporate trainer for two Fortune 500 companies. He transitioned to a community college career at College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, where he began his community college administration and college teaching career.

Ski is a current member and past chairman of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) Board of Directors and served on the AACC’s 21st Century Commission on the Future of Community Colleges. Ski served a two-year term in 2019-21 as chair of the Pennsylvania Commission for Community Colleges Board of Directors. He also serves on several local, regional and national higher education advisory committees.

Ski currently serves on the boards of the Broad Street (Farmers) Market, Recycle Bicycle of Harrisburg, Harrisburg Regional Chamber and Pennsylvania's Workforce Investment Board.

A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Dr. Ski is the only member of his working-class family to graduate from college earning bachelor, two master and doctorate degrees, including an honorary associate degree from a community college. A biking enthusiast, he and his husband, Steve Perrault, live in Harrisburg with Bart, their Basenji dog.

Jeff Shaffer, an alumnus of the College, owns a real estate company serving Gettysburg and Adams counties. He also serves on many community boards.

HARRISBURG CAMPUS

 


Jonathan Bowser is a managing partner and co-founder of Integrated Development Partners, a real estate development and consulting firm in Central PA. Prior to this position, he was the president and CEO of the Cumberland Area Economic Development Corporation. Mr. Bowser also serves on many community boards to include; Community First Fund, Harrisburg Area Builders Association, Whitaker Center, and Susquehanna Township Planning Commission.

Laura Campbell is a Regulatory Analyst with the Independent Regulatory Review Commission. She has over 20 years of experience working in the regulatory process. Laura attended Harrisburg Area Community College and graduated from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania and Drexel University. She is dedicated to Perry County through serving on many community boards.

Hagir Elsheikh is a health career and HACC nursing graduate. Ms. Elsheikh is the founder and CEO for HSE Staffing Agency, a healthcare staffing company. She has a bachelor of science in nursing and an associate degree in electrical engineering.

Mauree Gingrich spent 14 years in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives representing Lebanon County’s 101st District. She also served for 12 years on the Palmyra Borough Council.

James Grandon spent his entire career as a real estate developer in the Harrisburg area. Mr. Grandon is the former chairman of the HACC Foundation Board and most recently served on the State’s Higher Education Commission. Mr. Grandon also serves on many community boards.

Deep C. Gupta spent nearly four decades in Pennsylvania’s Department of Labor and Industry and retired as the director of workforce information analysis. Over the years, Mr. Gupta has established various Asian Indian associations and has been appointed by two governors to serve on the commonwealth’s Asian American and Pacific advisory committee.

Marsha V. Krotseng, Ed.D., has over thirty years of experience in higher education. She has held executive roles at both the institution and state system levels, including serving as the first female president of Bluefield State College. Dr. Krotseng is active in the American Council on Education Women’s Network Executive Council and sings with Cantate Carlisle.

Dr. Krotseng established a scholarship specifically for students who could not graduate without the additional aid and also led the development of an integrated Strategic Planning and Budgeting Model that was recognized with two Best Practice awards. Dr. Krosteng is married for 40+ years to her husband and best friend.

Gloria Vázquez Merrick serves as Executive Director of the Latino Hispanic American Community Center (LHACC) of the Greater Harrisburg Region since July, 2010.

Prior, to the nonprofit arena, Ms. Merrick served in the public sector, becoming the first Latina Director of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Leadership Development Institute (LDI) - graduating nearly 300 professional and executive women from LDI. Gloria Also served as Director of the Governor’s Office of Administration (OA), Commonwealth Management Development and Pennsylvania Management Associate programs, designed to develop existing management and to recruit recent college graduates from across the state to come work in the Pennsylvania public sector. As a senior management consultant in OA central headquarters, Merrick was instrumental in the development and execution of statewide initiatives impacting 35 agencies under the Governor’s jurisdiction. Gloria rounded out her public service career serving on the Pennsylvania Department of Health executive team where she spearheaded health initiatives and programs.

Ms. Merrick currently serves on boards of the Harrisburg Public Schools Foundation, the Historic Harrisburg Association, the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), and PennLive Editorial boards. Recognitions include: Central Pennsylvania “Latina Inspirational Leadership” Award; YWCA Women of Excellence Award; 2018 Martin Luther King Drum Major Award; 2019 BCM Peacemaker Award, and the Latino Connection 2020 Community Leader Award.

Gloria graduated with distinction from Eastern University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Management/Studies, and is a graduate of the Commonwealth’s Leadership Development Institute for Women in Government.

Jerry Mitchell is an Outreach Specialist with Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General. Jerry has been working in state government for 18 years, specializing in computer application development, cyber-crimes and fraud. In 1998, Jerry started his career with the Department of the Auditor General in the Office of Management Information Systems. Jerry’s work involved training more than 800 employees statewide on the latest application software and system protocols. Jerry lectured department employees on internet safety protocols and how to prevent identity thieves from stealing or cloning a person’s identity and personal devices. Jerry attended Harrisburg Area Community College and received his Trainer’s Certificate from Penn State Harrisburg.

Elizabeth “Liz” Knouse has held senior-level communication positions within the military and state government. A former president of the South Middleton School District Board of Directors, Ms. Knouse serves on many local boards.

Tom B. Richey, chairman of HACC’s Board of Trustees, held senior-level positions in Fortune 500 real estate development companies. With over 30 years of real estate development experience, Mr. Richey actively participates on the Board’s Finance Committee and is a member of the HACC Foundation Board.

Toni H. Sharp, vice chairman of HACC’s Board of Trustees and chairman of the Board’s Education Committee, held senior-level sales and marketing positions with AT&T and Verizon until her recent retirement. With over 20 years of sales and marketing experience, Ms. Sharp served on various community boards including the West Shore School District Board of Directors.

Peter C. Wambach, secretary of HACC’s Board of Trustees, is an alumnus of HACC’s second graduating class. Mr. Wambach previously held senior-level state government positions, including 12 years as a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

Deepanker Tewari, is a Director for veterinary lab services with the Department of Agriculture with over 25 years of experience working with State, Federal and University institutions including the National Institutes of Health and the Rockefeller University. Dr Tewari is an alumni of University of Cambridge (UK), Penn State (US) and HAU (India). He has served in various executive roles with several professional and local community organizations.

YORK CAMPUS


 

Niles S. Benn, assistant treasurer of HACC’s Board of Trustees, has practiced media law for over 40 years and currently teaches law at York College of Pennsylvania. He is an accomplished sculptor. Mr. Benn previously served as chairman of the board to one of the region’s hospitals and currently serves on numerous community boards.
