HACC Student Engagement Groups

What are Student Engagement Groups?

Student Engagement Groups are formed around shared interests, goals, or experiences to provide connections, support, and meaningful dialogue opportunities. These groups are platforms for building relationships, fostering engagement, and enhancing the student experience. All students are welcome to join a group that aligns with their interests or experiences. Want to join an existing Student Engagement Group? Fill out the HACC Involvement and Engagement Interest Form and the advisor will be in touch!

Advisor Responsibilities and Expectations

Advisors help student engagement groups succeed by assisting them to meet their goals. Some advisors actively participate in meetings, programming, and leadership development, while others maintain a more supportive, guiding presence.

The Advisor should:

  • Review the group’s mission and goals to determine how best to support its success.
  • Work closely with student leaders to provide guidance and assistance.
  • Encourage accountability in leadership roles and responsibilities.
  • Support and challenge students to think creatively when engaging the HACC community.
  • Partner with student involvement staff to develop programming and initiatives.
  • Be accessible and invested in the success of the group.

Advisors may serve as mentors, team builders, liaisons, mediators, motivators, or resource connectors.
