Meet Jasmine: Future Licensed Counselor

“I chose HACC because it’s allowing me the opportunity to do great things.”

Jasmine Ramos, a psychology student at HACC’s Lancaster Campus, will not let the obstacles in life stop her from getting her degree. Jasmine lives with a condition called spinal muscular atrophy, which weakens her muscles to the point where she requires 24/7 physical and mechanical assistance. Her journey may be different from those traveled by her peers, but Jasmine is motivated like many other HACC students to pursue her dreams no matter what.

After taking a two-year break from college, she decided it was the right time to take her education further. When she discovered HACC, she instantly knew it was the school for her. She connected with a HACC admissions counselor and applied within a matter of days. She said, “This was something that I always said I would do and I’m finally putting my words into actions.”

HACC has opened many doors for Jasmine while providing her with new opportunities and experiences. She said, “I'm starting to have more confidence in my abilities despite my challenges.” Jasmine wants everyone to know that HACC offers a multitude of resources to students while supporting them every step of the way.

After graduation, Jasmine plans to transfer to a four-year school to pursue her master’s degree and eventually become a licensed counselor.
