Notification and Severance Agreements for Impacted Employees

We care about the HACC colleagues whose positions were eliminated on April 10, 2026. We recognize that these decisions affect real people and cause real pain. At the same time, these difficult decisions were necessary to ensure HACC’s long-term future.

To address the unfortunate misinformation and outright lies being spread inside and outside of the HACC community, we are sharing the following facts with you:

  • Forty-one (41) vacant positions were eliminated. These job duties are being discontinued or reassigned to current employees.
  • Eighty-seven (87) filled positions were eliminated. These colleagues were appreciated, respected and valued. The decision to eliminate their positions was not personal.
  • Former colleagues whose positions were eliminated were informed of the position eliminations accordingly:
    • Some colleagues were informed during Zoom meetings.
    • Some colleagues were informed during phone meetings. While this method was not ideal, it was necessary. It was necessary due to the challenges with coordinating Zoom meetings simultaneously for so many people, many of whom did not have access to technology.
    • No colleagues were informed through pre-recorded messages.
  • The full-time non-faculty colleagues whose positions were eliminated were offered a severance agreement. The severance agreement offered one week of pay for every year of service completed at HACC and two additional weeks of pay. For example, a colleague with 15 years of service will receive 17 weeks of pay. The letter and agreement were sent through regular U.S. Postal Service mail and certified mail.
  • Former colleagues will receive healthcare benefits through April 30, 2026.
  • Former colleagues can utilize the services of Mazzitti & Sullivan EAP. These services will be available to them through June 30, 2026.

While we know these colleagues would have rather retained their jobs than to be offered a severance agreement, we believe the severance agreement was fair.
