The Lancaster Campus of Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC) will offer several new food classes this month.

Growing on You - Yeasted Breads will be offered on Saturday, Feb. 21, from 9:30 to noon. Everyone who has ever had a success or failure with yeasted breads will learn from this discussion/demonstration how to increase flavor, reduce kneading time and lengthen the life of homemade sourdough and yeasted breads. Participants will take home a sourdough starter.

Lenten Fish will be offered Wednesday, Feb. 25, from 6-9 p.m. Participants will be entertained with a variety of fish options and accompaniments for cooking during the Lenten season. Several dishes including flounder vin blanc, crusted Chilean sea bass, grilled tuna al vierge and an easy deep-fried cod sandwich will be demonstrated.

The Cause and Effect of Wine and Food will be offered on Sunday, Feb. 22, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. and again on Thursday, March 11, from 6-8:30 p.m. This class will help students understand wine and food pairings more easily. It will demonstrate how wines may taste differently when served with certain foods than they do alone.

The class will help students understand why certain things can change the perceived taste of wine and food, such as the different effects sugar or citrus can have on the same wine. Class will explore this and other effects through several types of wines and different tastes. This can be a learning experience about students' own personal tastes, as well.

These are just a few of many Culinary Arts classes offered at the Lancaster Campus of HACC located at 1641 Old Philadelphia Pike. Information may be obtained by visiting the Website below or calling (717) 358-2901.
