The Harrisburg Area Community College’s Senator John J. Shumaker Public Safety Center has made some important funding changes to our local level Fire/Haz-Mat/Rescue courses offered at local fire companies. Historically we have absorbed the costs of conducting these courses, and have been able to offer them free of charge to our first responders. Over the years, we have continued to work diligently to contain our costs in order to keep providing these programs.
Recently the allocations provided by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to all Community Colleges were cut by 10% this year and are not predicted to increase in the foreseeable future. Due to these recent funding changes and the increasing cost of needed supplies and expenses, we must begin to implement Local Level course fees beginning after January 1, 2012.
The course price list below reflects a reasonable fee assigned to each course. We will invoice the fire company for the cost of the class after it’s completion. Any courses that have already been submitted and approved, will be conducted at no charge.
The decision to implement these course fees was a difficult one, but it will allow us to ensure quality and affordable training is always available to our first responders. We recognize the value of your services and the impact you have on our communities, and want to ensure training is always within your reach. We look forward to working closely with you in the future to provide you with all of your training and education needs.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
D. Randy Padfield & Perry L. Pierich, Education Specialists
