"Glassblowing and flameworking is the process of forming glass while it is in a molten, semi-liquid state," explained Jessica Lantz, curator of arts and assistant manager, adding the process dates back to the First Century B.C.
HACC will hold an open house for the craftsmen from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, March 2.
Radius glass craftsman Michael Peluso will present a flame-worked glass demonstration from 1-3 p.m., Sunday, April 13.
Peluso, who studied at HACC's soft glass studio and earned a degree in visual art and design from the college, has taken numerous classes at the studios of the Corning (N.Y.) Museum of Glass. He also has studied under glassblowing and flameworking masters, such as William Gudenrath, Michael Scheiner, James Nowak, Michael Rogers, Milon Townsend and Jane Bruce. Peluso operates a small flameworking studio in the northern York County community of Dover.
All items on display will be available for sale. Radius is located on the ground floor of the State Museum of Pennsylvania, 300 N. Third St.
The Radius Showcase Series continues throughout the year, with themes such as Ikabana vessels and jewelry brooches. HACC's Gallery and Museum shop is open 10 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and noon to 4:30 p.m on Sundays. For more information, call 787-5590.
