Learning to express your inner artist with a ball of clay on a spinning wheel, becoming an internet tycoon, writing the next hit children's book, or even just becoming a great engineer or gardener are just a fraction of the dreams you can fulfill with some of the courses available at the Lancaster Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College.

Working Clay: Potter's Wheel is a basic, comprehensive course that teaches you how to transform clay using a potter's wheel. Various techniques from clay preparation to finish glazing are taught. Tuition includes text, use of all necessary tools, clay, glazes, and two firings on each piece completed. Additional studio time is included at no extra cost. No prior experience is necessary, but enrollment is limited. This course will be offered on Tuesdays from February 6 to March 27, 6:30-9pm. Cost is $260.

Selling on eBay is a course that covers the basics of selling on the Internet. There is something for the beginner, novice, or even the home-based entrepreneur: setting up an eBay sellers account, software available for online listing, writing the title and description, photo requirements, uploading and storage of photos, and the best days to list/end an online auction, will all be covered. This class is offered Mondays from February 5 to February 26, 6:30-8:30pm. Cost is $65.

Writing Children's Books introduces the techniques of writing chapter and picture books for children. Topics include creating characters, writing strong, yet simple stories, and presenting your work to publishers. At the end of the course, each student will have had time to complete and prepare a book to present to an agent or publisher. This class will be offered Tuesdays from February 13 to March 6, 6:30-8:30pm. Cost is $89.

Heirloom Gardening teaches the skills needed to grow organic plants. Unlike supermarket vegetables, or hybrids, heirlooms are not chemically altered in any way. Although they are not great for travel, heirlooms will surpass the taste of any other vegetable. This one-session seminar is scheduled for Wednesday, February 21 at 6:30-9pm. Cost is $25.

Discovery Day: Engineering is a special one day event for youth entering grades three through eight. This half-day session includes four hours of instruction, hands-on application, and most importantly, a fun learning experience about engineering. Children can use their imaginations to create an idea, design their product, and actually build it. To realize the engineer inside, come for this exciting workshop on Saturday, February 24 from 8:30am to 12:30pm. Cost is $25. Light refreshments are provided.

These are only a few of the many community education classes and trips available through the Lancaster Campus of HACC, located at East 204, 1641 Old Philadelphia Pike, Lancaster.
