It won't be long before the longer days and warm temperatures provide the opportunity to try something new. If you've always wondered what it would be like to design your own flower arrangements, play an instrument or "hit the links," now is the time to take advantage of several noncredit course offerings offered by HACC's Gettysburg Campus, 731 Old Harrisburg Road, during its first summer session.

Create Your Own Spring Flower Arrangement from the Garden comes just when the season's flowers are in full bloom. The two-session course will be offered on Tuesdays, April 18 and 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. In the first session, emphasis will be on the basic designs, steps to follow, do's and don'ts, materials to be used, preparation of these materials and a demonstration. During the second session, the instructor, who has trained many winning floriculture teams, will guide you through the creation of your very own arrangement. The cost is $39.

Ever want to play a musical instrument but never had a lesson? Frustrated by music notation? Don't know a half note from a half step? The Music Reading for Total Beginners will help. Students will quickly learn all the basic reading skills needed for playing and reading music on any instrument. Offered on Thursday, April 20, from 2 to 4 p.m. and at the same time on Wednesday, August 30, the sessions are essential for the music lover who wants to know more. The cost is $35. A $15 materials fee for the booklet and CD will be collected in class.

The Bridges Golf Course in Abbottstown is the site for Beginning Golf, which will be held for five sessions on Tuesdays, April 25 through May 23, from 6 to 7 p.m. Golf Pro Fred Shultz will cover grip, stance, service of irons and woods and golf etiquette with participants. Students must provide their own equipment. Because the class size is limited, it is important to enroll early. The cost is $99.
