The paramedics, who completed their national certification exam prior to graduation, spent three semesters completing an advanced-level curriculum that has prepared them for work in a pre-hospital setting, such as an ambulance crew or aero medical service. In addition to basic life saving skills, they are trained in invasive advanced skills, such as IV's, medicine administration, interpretation of heart rhythms-EKG's and advanced airway management.
"HACC trains the highest number of paramedics in the area, averaging around 25 students in each class," said Craig Davis, MEd, BS, EMT-P, director, ALS Programs. "We also are one of only three programs in the state that are accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions."
Beginning with the fall semester, HACC now offers the program's classroom lecture material through its Virtual Campus. Students must travel to the Harrisburg or Lancaster Campuses for their clinical labs, and their hospital and ALS field rotations are the same as students completing the program in the traditional classroom setting.
