The public is invited to a free, Community Open House at Harrisburg Area Community College's new Center for Technology and Arts (CCTA) on Thursday, June 28, from noon to 7pm. HACC's facility is located at the former AMP/TYCO building at 1523 North Fourth Street in Harrisburg.

The Community Center for Technology and Arts offers training for careers in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC), Electrical Occupations, Industrial Maintenance, Precision Machining, Crafts Marketing, and Computer Technology. Those attending will have the opportunity to explore these areas and tour the state-of-the-art training facilities. Classes in adult basic education and free GED preparation are also available to enable those who have never considered college because they did not finish high school.

Free information workshops are scheduled at the following times:

  • Noon-1pm - Adult Basic Education Information Session
    For those who have not completed their high school education, learn about free HACC GED preparation classes and scheduling for the GED test.
  • 1-2pm - Hot Careers for 2001
    Learn about current trends in entry-level training programs to jump start a career, where to find training, jobs, starting salaries, and more.
  • 2-3pm - New Beginnings for Adults
    For adults who are thinking about going to college for the first time, starting or changing a career, or taking a class for personal enrichment.
  • 3-4pm - Success in College Depends on You
    An overview of the type of skills that are required to becomes a successful college student.
  • 4-5pm - Adult Basic Education Information Session
    Repeat of noon workshop.
  • 5-7pm - Admissions and Financial Aid
    How to complete the admission process at HACC, and how to apply for need-based financial aid grants.

Attendees are welcome to any of the sessions, and then are invited to tour the downtown center, talk with faculty about industry needs, salaries, and training requirements.
