Individuals who are or will be at least 15 years old by June 30 are eligible to become American Red Cross certified lifeguards through Lifeguard Training offered by the Lancaster Campus of Harrisburg Area Community College. The 40-hour course will be held at the Manheim Township High School pool from June 26 through June 30, from 8am to 5pm.

Participants will be required to take a precourse swimming test that includes a 500 yard swim, treading water for two minutes using legs only, and a surface dive to recover a 10-pound weight. At the end of training, students will have certification in CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguard.

"Lancaster Campus is offering lifeguard training to help fill the shortage of qualified lifeguards in this area," says Alice Hinkle, coordinator of health care and EMS training at the Lancaster Campus. "The dates allow for high school students to be able to attend during the day, and they would receive in high demand."

The cost for Lifeguard Training is $200. For further information, contact Alice Hinkle, coordinator, allied health and EMS training, at (717) 295-6462, or email at ahinkle@hacc.edu. To register, contact the Continuing Education department at the Lancaster Campus, at 295-6150.
