More Than Sports: Title IX, Accessing Education, and Being Free From Discrimination - Tuesday, March 16, 2021, at 11 a.m. For many years, Title IX has been thought of as the law that protects and supports women’s sports. That’s only a portion of the law. Title IX is a federal civil rights law passed in 1972, declaring that “no person in the United States shall, based on sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.” All individuals, regardless of gender, have a right to access education and to do so while being free from discrimination. In this presentation, learn about Title IX’s protections against sexual harassment and sexual assault, as well as the Violence Against Women Act’s (VAWA) requirements for colleges to address dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking. Join Anthony Beard, Director of Student Conduct/Deputy Title IX Coordinator, as he shares the importance of Title IX and how it impacts HACC. Sponsored by: Student Conduct All are welcome.
