    Student Involvement presents Gerald Wilson who is founding member of the African American Historical Society of South-Central Pennsylvania and serves on the Board of Directors of the Lancaster County Historical Society. Gerald Wilson will present the history of Lancaster County through the years of slavery in the United States and the reconstruction era. The audience will be introduced to two of Lancaster County’s most notable African American Citizens, Stephen Smith and William Whipper who operated a lumber business in Columbia, PA and went on to lead the abolitionist movement in Pennsylvania. We will discuss Thaddeus Stevens and his place in the Underground Railroad, his role as defense attorney for the Christina Rioters, as well as his position in Congress advocating for the end of slavery.
