HARRISBURG, Pa. - HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, and Johnson Controls hosted a partnership showcase for elected officials, community leaders and HACC students and instructors at the College’s Midtown 1 Building on April 21, 2025.
The event included an overview of the Johnson Controls Scholars Program, which provides scholarships, emergency assistance funding and valuable industry connections for HACC students enrolled in specific skilled trades programs. Since 2023, HACC has received $200,000 in funding through the Johnson Controls Community College Partnership Program (CCPP).
HACC President and CEO John J. “Ski” Sygielski, MBA, Ed.D., said, “At HACC, we recognize the urgent and growing demand for a highly skilled workforce, and we are proud to serve as a leading source of that talent in Central Pennsylvania. Therefore, we are honored to collaborate with Johnson Controls - a valued partner committed to investing in the future. Together, we are empowering the next generation of professionals with the education, training and opportunities they need to thrive.”
“Programs like HACC's are critical to train the next wave of talent and address the ongoing skilled trades workforce gap,” said Katie McGinty, vice president and chief sustainability and external relations officer at Johnson Controls. "We are already seeing a return on this investment through the quality of the students graduating and I'm excited to watch as these talented individuals grow in their career.”
Additional individuals who spoke during the event included Paul Arciba, HACC student and Johnson Controls Scholar; Rep. Nate Davidson (HD-103); Joe Emrich, portfolio leader, HVAC mechanical solutions at Johnson Controls; Rep. Justin C. Fleming (HD-105); and Sen. Patty Kim (D-15).
Event attendees toured HACC’s Midtown 1 Building and engaged with students and instructors. The facility is the primary training location for many of HACC’s skilled trades programs, including electrical technology, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) and welding.
