HACC’s CARE Center: Student Support and Resources

CARE Center logo

HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, established the Consultation, Advocacy, Referral, and Empowerment (CARE) Center as a central resource for students seeking help with non-academic challenges. This free service is available to all current HACC students who are actively enrolled and attending classes.

We are committed to supporting the well-being and success of our students. While HACC’s primary focus is providing a high-quality, affordable education, we understand that students may need additional assistance outside of the classroom to thrive academically. Our dedicated CARE Center colleagues connect students with things such as:

Child care

  • Students may be referred to the Early Learning Resource Center in their region to assess eligibility for subsidized childcare. There are also onsite childcare options available on HACC’s Harrisburg and Lancaster campuses.

Food

  • Referrals and resource information can be provided for food pantries, and contact information for eligibility and applications for SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) and WIC (Women, Infants, and Children). The CARE Center also organizes a Free Meal each week to assist students who are food insufficient while on-campus.

Health Care

  • Information on low-cost services is available as well as referrals to determine eligibility for Pennie, Medical Assistance and CHIP.

Housing

  • Students in need of housing support are provided information on local shelters and housing assistance agencies.

Mental health services

  • Those who are in crisis or interested in counseling services are provided information on the free services provided by the college each semester as well as referrals to other community organizations.

Social services

  • Guidance and contact information for organizations able to assist students with applications for TANF, SNAP, LIHEAP, WIC, and CHIP are all available.

Transportation

  • Bus passes are available to assist students in attending classes/clinicals.

All CARE services are available regardless of campus location.
