Meta Majors Information

Meta Majors Information

At HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, our students and their success remain our top priority.

As part of our 2026-27 budget announcement, the College indicated that we are restructuring and sunsetting some academic programs. We acknowledge there has been confusion surrounding this announcement. Therefore, we are hopeful the information below will answer your questions to ensure our students continue to reach their dreams at the College.

In fall 2027, HACC will launch new meta majors as part of our strategic growth plan to embrace emerging educational models. These meta majors are designed to ensure students are career ready and prepared to enter the workforce. HACC remains committed to working alongside prominent employers in our region to ensure these programs align with in-demand, high priority occupations. Additionally, this enhancement will make it easier for HACC students to transfer to and from four-year institutions.

Meta majors are a broad grouping of related academic programs that help students explore interests and choose a specific major more efficiently. In addition, meta majors align coursework with clear career pathways.

These are the facts:

  1. HACC students are STILL eligible for financial aid when they select a meta major as part of their degree.
  2. Meta majors do NOT diminish a student’s ability to get a degree or transfer to and from four-year schools, career and technical education (CTE) and workforce-aligned programs. In fact, meta majors help streamline the student journey.
  3. Meta majors do NOT impact a student’s transfer ability.
  4. Meta majors provide structured academic pathways to help students stay on track to complete their programs.
  5. Meta majors reduce excess credits.
  6. Meta majors improve academic advising and support by advisors who specialize within a family of meta majors.
