This course will cover the activated sludge process, aeration systems and plant start-up as well as control strategies, handling operational issues and the basics of microbiology. Students will also learn activated sludge math, acceptable process modifications and an overview of the processes used for nitrogen and phosphorous removal. $400 (virtual or in-person). In this class, students will learn about the design, construction, operation and maintenance of wastewater collection systems. The class provides an overview of the different types of pumping stations, their components and the regulatory requirements. Additionally, the class includes an overview of pumps and hydraulics as well as flow meters and how they pertain to wastewater treatment and collection systems. $275 (Cost is subject to change).

HACC’s 180-hour Wastewater Treatment Operator Pre-Certification Training Program was developed with consultants and is approved through the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PA DEP). $3,035 (Cost is subject to change).
What can I do with wastewater treatment in the workforce?
This program is designed for individuals interested in becoming PA DEP-certified wastewater treatment plant operators. Participants who successfully complete the program will have the option of taking the relevant PA DEP certification exams. For those who pass the exams, PA DEP will credit students with experience time to fast-track them towards becoming a PA DEP licensed operator.
