What are your title and main job responsibilities?
I am the director of philanthropy. One of my primary responsibilities is raising funds from individual and organizational donors. I also develop and implement processes to seek grants, sponsorships and other forms of corporate support. Moreover, I manage a portfolio of donors.
What inspires you to come to work every day, and why?
I am inspired by our students’ academic and career aspirations. The resources and services that we provide helps future and current HACC students start and/or continue on their path of excellence. The OCA team is committed to our students’ success.
How do you interact with and engage students and excite them about attending HACC and learning?
Though my direct interaction with students is limited, we secure funding for scholarships, academic programs and innovative initiatives that directly impact student success.
What is one of your best moments as an employee at HACC?
During the Day of Giving on April 11, 2019, thanks to our generous sponsors, the HACC Foundation awarded over 50 on-the-spot tuition giveaways of up to $1,000 each to HACC students. This was significant, because it helped these students to pay for their tuition.
What do you see as your greatest personal achievement?
As a single mother of two children, I completed my bachelor’s degree and master’s degree while working a full-time job.
What energizes you the most and why?
Fulfilling my purpose and passion in life, my faith, my family and my friends energize me the most.
If you could solve one community or national problem, what might that be?
Since I am limited to one selection, I choose the one that has a broad impact on our society – systemic racism.
As you look to the future, what matters most to you?
Peace, happiness, truth (no matter how ugly it may be) and love matter most.
How do you enjoy spending free time?
I love spending time with my family.
Who’s your biggest hero, and why?
Ava DuVernay is my biggest hero right now. Her quote, “I’m not going to knock on any closed doors. I’m going to make my own door” inspires me to never give up and to make my own path.

I have a bachelor’s degree in business communications and a master’s degree in business administration.
