What are your title and main job responsibilities?
I am the executive director of financial and support services. I manage a cross-functional team that provides support to the HACC Foundation. The financial and support services team manages the HACC Foundation scholarship process, administers the HACC Foundation donor database, analyzes data to assist with fundraising and provides financial reporting and analysis.
What inspires you to come to work every day, and why?
I am inspired by my team members and their commitment to our students. Our team is committed to excellence and we provide key services that benefit the college and our students on a daily basis.
How do you interact with and engage students and excite them about attending HACC and learning?
Though my direct interaction with students is limited, the Financial and Support Services team administers the HACC Foundation scholarship program. Through our communications with students about scholarships, we are able to engage them and hear their stories. We also participate in commencement ceremonies and are immersed in the excitement of our students as they complete their HACC journey.
What is one of your best moments as an employee at HACC?
One of my best moments at HACC was completing the HACC Foundation audit process for the first time in a new software system. The audit had the best outcome and was the culmination of over a year of work to implement the new system, integrate the new system with existing systems and ensure that we are acting as good stewards for the money entrusted to the HACC Foundation.
What do you see as your greatest personal achievement?
I am very proud to say that I earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Participating in scouting helped to shape me into the person I am today. I am also proud to have worked to start a girl’s troop within Scouts BSA (formerly Boy Scouts) so that my daughters have the opportunity to become Eagle Scouts and reap all of the benefits of the scouting program.
What energizes you the most and why?
My children energize me the most. I have three daughters, and it is important to me that they become good citizens and people. As part of this, our family emphasizes the need for some type of additional training after high school. Therefore, it is important to me that places like HACC are here serving the community when it is time for the next steps for my children.
If you could solve one community or national problem, what might that be?
I would solve encroachment on individual liberty by all levels of government.
As you look to the future, what matters most to you?
My family is most important in my life. Ensuring that my children have valuable experiences that engage them with life, learning and the community are focal points.
How do you enjoy spending free time?
I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I enjoy camping, hiking, reading and woodworking.
Who’s your biggest hero, and why?
My parents are my biggest heroes. They provided the necessary tools, guidance and resources to help me succeed in life. As the first in my family to go to college, I know that their support and emphasis on education was the foundation to my success.
What educational degree(s) have you obtained?
I earned two degrees:
- University of Pittsburgh, B.A. in Business/Political Science
- University of Phoenix, M.B.A. with concentration in Technology Management
