Re-Certification training for PA emission inspectors offered by Lancaster Campus of HACC

Every two years automotive technicians who are certified vehicle emission inspectors must return to the classroom for updates and re-certification. HACC's Lancaster Campus has made it convenient for current inspectors to maintain their certification with a four-hour course that takes place on Tuesday, July 25, from 5:30pm to 9:30pm. The class meets at the Lancaster Campus, in the East Building room 202.

PennDOT requires emission inspectors to maintain state certification, being capable to identify, describe and perform a visual and a diagnostic OBD II vehicle test according to PennDOT guidelines. OBD stands for "on-board diagnostics," a computer-based system built into all model year 1996 and newer light-duty cars and trucks. OBD monitors the performance of some of the engines' major components, including individual emission controls. The system provides owners with an early warning of malfunctions by way of a dashboard "Check Engine" light. By giving vehicle owners this early warning, OBD protects not only the environment but also consumers, identifying minor problems before they become major repair bills.

The cost of the course is $75. Emission inspectors looking for re-certification may enroll in the training session at the Lancaster Campus of HACC by contacting the Community Education Center at 717-358-2901.
