Ancient history comes alive in HACC spring noncredit courses in Hanover

Ancient history continues to influence modern life, through our symbols, how we might decorate our home, even the stars in the sky. Learn more about how ancient civilizations developed their ideas that are with us today with two classes of broad interest that the Gettysburg Campus of HACC has planned for this spring in Hanover. Noncredit sessions about Feng Shui and astronomy will be held in the evening at South Western High School, 200 Bowman Road in Hanover.

Introduction to Astronomical Observing is divided into two parts: an indoor class introducing the various concepts of observing and an outdoor session using a telescope. Scheduled for Monday, March 27 and Thursday, March 30, from 7 to 9 p.m., this course will cover constellations, coordinates, reading a star map, magnitude and how telescopes operate. The outdoor session will take place at Bethel United Church of Christ, which is two miles east of Hanover. The cost is $35.

During Feng Shui: An Introductory Course, students will learn the basics of "Chi" or energy and how to apply the "Bagua" to their own homes or office environments. The "Bagua" is used to enhance certain areas of life, including relationships, careers, and wealth. The two-session course is offered on Wednesdays, April 5 and April 12. The cost is $35.
