Central Pennsylvania's community college has planned a guided trip that includes stops in Lima, Cuzco, and Machu Picchu, Peru; Quito, Ecuador; and a three-day cruise of the Galapagos Islands.
"This is a vacation of a lifetime!" said Dr. Don Koones, director of the Community Education Center and professor of history at HACC's Harrisburg Campus. "It's a destination that most people only read about in books but seldom ever experience the opportunity of walking in the footsteps of Pizarro and Darwin."
Participants will also spend four days hiking, swimming and cruising the Galapagos Islands of Bartholomew, James, Fernandina, Isabela, Baltra, Santa Cruz and San Cristobal.
Prior to the tour departure, HACC will host a dinner and lecture on its campus at the C. Ted Lick Conference Center, Harrisburg Campus, May 19, from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. The lecture will include highlights of some of the exciting places visited on the trip, as well as historical background. A representative of AAA Travel will be on hand for discussion and a question and answer session. Participants will take home useful information and products regarding the trip.
Because space is available on a limited basis for this trip, organizers suggest reservations be made as soon as possible. The package rate is $4,599 double occupancy or $5,999 single occupancy, which includes an $85 air tax that is subject to change. An initial deposit of $500 per person is payable with a reservation. The final payment is due March 10.
