The fiesta begins at 11:30am in the community room of the Cooper Student Center and continues until 1pm. A Mariachi band plays and participants have the chance to learn dances to the music of Zapateado, Rancheras and Corridos. Mexican food is the theme for lunch in the cafeteria.
Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, when General Ignacio Zaragoza's Mexican troops defeated Napoleon III's French army and France's attempt to create an empire in Mexico.
HACC's Cinco de Mayo celebration is sponsored by MOSAICO Latino (Latino Student Organization), International Awareness Club, Student Government Association, Student Wildwood Activities Team and the Office of Multicultural Affairs.
