The series of workshops begins at 1:00 with an hour-long presentation of "Dressed for Success." HACC student models wearing fashions from T&S Menswear, Casual Corner, and other local clothing retailers will illustrate how to make a good first impression by dressing appropriately for the type of job they are seeking. "Discount clothing coupons will be available," said "Jump Start" coordinator Mary Bottorf of HACC's student services department, "and there will also be drawings for gift certificates."
In addition to "Dress for Success," students may choose two of the three additional information sessions that will be offered from 2:00 to 3:00 pm and from 3:00 to 4:00 pm. "Writing Effective Cover Letters and Resumes" focuses on how the look and content of a resume can be a make-or-break factor in getting an interview. HACC Learning Center Coordinator Leslie Boon will teach tips and strategies to catch the employer's eye and showcase the applicant in the best possible light.
A workshop on "Job Search and Interviewing Skills" will be presented by Laurie Woods from the Department of Human Resources of Gettysburg Hospital. Topics include expectations during an interview, typical questions managers might ask, and questions the candidate should ask. Participants may also choose a mock interview format. Adams County Career Link representative June Winebrenner will be available to assist students in job searching and accessing the Internet.
"Financial Aid: Payback Time" addresses the concerns of students who have borrowed money for school and now must pay it back. Presented by HACC Financial Aid Advisor Thomas Vo, the workshop covers facts about loan repayment and offers tips to help graduates avoid default and smooth their financial futures.
The "Jump Start Your Job Search" workshops are open to the community at no charge and will take place in Community Room 109 at the Gettysburg HACC campus, 731 Old Harrisburg Road. For more information or to register for the event, call 337-3855.
