Celebrate more than 50 years of a local poet's work in a "Women of History" poetry reading at Harrisburg Area Community College's Wildwood Campus.
Miriam Kessler, who began writing on July 3, 1937, will be honored March 26 in C. Ted Lick Wildwood Conference Center. The program will begin with a 6:30 p.m. reception.
Kessler will receive a HACC Student Government Association of award applauding her dedication, perseverance and hard work during this Women's History Month event.
The author of a book, "Someone to Pour the Wine", Kessler has held poetry readings throughout Pennsylvania, Maryland and the Washington D.C. area.
A wife, mother and grandmother, she writes about the pleasures of life, the loss suffered in death and the "inhumane condition" as embodied by the Holocaust.
Also a performer, Kessler studied acting with the late Jasper Deeter at Hedgerow Theater, the oldest repertory in the United States.
Along with the Student Government Association, the Office of Student Life of HACC and Poesy East End Word Island are cosponsoring the evening of poetry.
