Gettysburg Campus Of HACC To Expand

Jan. 8, 2002
The growing number of students attending the Gettysburg Campus of Harrisburg Area Community College has led the College to expand its Gettysburg facilities on Old Harrisburg Road. HACC's Board of Trustees announced at their January meeting that 25,000 square feet of space will be added-doubling the size of the current campus. The terms of the lease have been extended to 2013.

"The expansion later this year is an incredible opportunity for HACC to deliver enhanced education and service for the workforce of Adams County," said Dr. Edna V. Baehre, president of HACC. "We will be able to accommodate our growing enrollment while developing more ways to serve our educational and business partners."

The Gettysburg Campus has been operating at its current location since 1997, and has served Adams County residents since its start as the Gettysburg Center in 1990. Enrollment is currently 24% higher in credit hours than at this time last year, with nearly 800 students starting the spring semester.

"The purpose of expanding the Gettysburg Campus is twofold," says Campus executive director, Jennifer Weaver. "One, we are outgrowing our current space, and need more room to accommodate our growing enrollment. Two, by doubling our size, we can create an enhanced college environment with additional classrooms, computer labs, a science lab, an expanded library and learning center, and areas for students to gather, study, and socialize."

Renovations are scheduled to begin this spring, with projected completion in August.
