Federal Transfer Monitoring

Federal Transfer Monitoring

The U.S. Department of Education requires colleges to check if students have taken credits and received federal financial aid at another institution during the most recent academic year. This verification helps prevent students from exceeding their annual limits on Pell Grant and/or Direct Loan funds.

During this process, a hold will be placed on your financial aid record and your aid will temporarily disappear. You can view this hold under “View My Financial Aid Homepage” in your myHACC student portal

Timeline

The National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) Transfer Monitoring Hold will be placed on your financial aid record and will expire after seven (7) days. This hold is applied prior to the start of each semester so that HACC can upload the most current federal grant and loan information from the NSLDS.

The transfer monitoring hold is placed on all student financial aid records. The hold cannot be removed before the seven-day review period is complete.

Please note that during this 7-days review period, financial aid funds will not be available for purchasing books and supplies at the campus bookstore.

Required Actions

If you are a HACC student who has never attended another school:

  • The hold will automatically be removed from your record in 7 days. No actions are required on your part.

If you are a HACC student who has recently transferred from another school:

  • If no pending aid is found at your previous school:
If it is determined that you have no pending aid at your previous school and your financial aid amounts for both schools do not exceed your yearly eligibility limit(s), the hold will automatically be removed from your record in 7 days. No actions are required on your part.
  • If pending aid is found at your previous school:
If you have pending aid at your previous school, your financial aid at HACC will be adjusted. This adjustment ensures that your combined aid from both institutions does not exceed your yearly eligibility limit(s).

Please monitor your awards under “View My Financial Aid Award” in your myHACC student portal to review any updates.

Please review the Transfer Students section for additional required actions.

Transfer Students

If you have transferred to HACC during the current academic year, please review the following important information:

  • Add HACC to your FAFSA:
If you have already completed a FAFSA, be sure to add HACC’s school code (003273) to your application at studentaid.gov.
  • Cancel aid at your previous school:
Financial aid does not transfer automatically between institutions. You must contact your previous school to cancel any pending aid so that funds are not duplicated.
  • Understand your aid eligibility:
Your financial aid eligibility at HACC may be limited, reduced, or canceled based on the amount of aid you received at your prior institution. This ensures compliance with federal annual limits for Pell Grants and Direct Loans.
