Meet Vincent: Veteran Changing His Career Path

 Mechanicsburg, PA

“This is my newest challenge, a first time college student and in a career path completely different from anything else that I have ever done before.”

Did you know HACC has the second largest active military and veteran population among public colleges and universities in Pennsylvania? Vincent Thompson, a massage therapy student and veteran, served nearly 24 years in the military before attending HACC. Vincent had the privilege of being trained through the Professional Military Education (PME) academies but added, “This is my newest challenge, a first time college student and in a career path completely different from anything else that I have ever done before.”

Vincent chose HACC because of the location, instructors and availability of massage therapy classes. He added that his instructors provide a wealth of resources to make students successful, while teaching in “various ways so that all can learn.” Vincent is one of eight students in the nation who received a 2019 Successful Hands Grant, an opportunity a HACC faculty member told him about.

Through his military experience, Vincent learned “there is nothing that you cannot do.” After graduating from HACC in 2020, Vincent plans to open a relaxation studio.
