Meet Randi: Volunteer Firefighter

 Palmyra, PA

“I appreciate the time all of the instructors put into preparing for the classes, answering questions and sharing their personal experiences for new firefighters to learn from.”

HACC is renowned for its public safety training. The College has numerous partnerships with fire companies in Central Pennsylvania and beyond that allow individuals to complete their training. Randi, a teacher who takes classes during the summer, is also a member of the Palmyra Fire Company in Lebanon County. Randi chose HACC because of the proximity to where she volunteers as a firefighter. She said she wanted to enroll in fire training classes “to better serve my community as a volunteer firefighter.”

Randi reflected on how her experiences at HACC prepared her to put skills directly to use in an emergency:

“Often times as a student, I have wondered when I might implement my training. I was able to put my newly learned skills to work within several hours of completing the Intro to Fire Service class, as I responded to my first motor vehicle accident. Once at the station, I felt calm and very efficient donning my gear, a skill we practiced relentlessly in class. Once at the scene, I felt comfortable in the environment. Each class for Fire Service presented topics that the newest person to fire fighting could understand. Through class topics, I have started to more fully understand training presented by my own department. I appreciate the time all of the instructors put into preparing for the classes, answering questions and sharing their personal experiences for new fire fighters to learn from.”

HACC is proud to provide exceptional training for members of our communities who risk their lives each and every day.
