Each class offering of any course has its own unique identification number.
This is referred to as the CRN (or Course Reference Number). Typically, the CRN consists of 5 digits for Spring or Fall semesters and 4 digits for summer semesters.
For example, you might register for a fall section of an online Accounting 101 course which has a CRN of 20001.
If you are interested in teaching online for HACC's Virtual Campus, you will need to complete three steps.
complete an application online for employment, and
be course-qualified by the appropriate college subject-area expert, and
either attend and satisfactorily complete or be exempted from the Online Academy (OLA).
How to apply
The following instructional video will help you understand how to submit an application for part-time faculty employment at Harrisburg Area Community College.
How to be course-qualified
Course qualification is the process by which faculty and curriculum deans review your credentials to certify you to teach specific courses at HACC. In most subject areas, this qualification requires, at a minimum, a master’s degree in the subject area.
To have your credentials reviewed for course-qualification, you must submit an application to the College’s employment website, https://jobs.hacc.edu. The College does not accept paper applications. When the course-qualification process is complete, you will receive an auto-generated email informing you of it.
How to enroll in or be exempted from Online Academy
The purpose of the Online Academy is to provide faculty with the training they need to be able to offer their classes online. The College has recognized the importance of this training, and it is included as a requirement for teaching online classes in Administrative Procedure 772, Distance Education.
Online Academy has been carefully designed to equip you to teach in an online environment with a focus on the pedagogy needed to successfully develop and teach online courses. You will experience online instruction as both an online student and as a faculty member designing an online course.
Learning and/or teaching online is not for everyone, and attending OLA does not guarantee an online teaching position at HACC. To enroll in Online Academy, learn more.
If you think you may qualify for exemption from this training, and you have been course-qualified to teach at HACC, or for any further information, contact Dr. Larry Adams, Vice-President of the Virtual Campus at ljadams@hacc.edu.
