What is global service-learning?

Wikipedia defines service-learning as a method of teaching that combines classroom instruction with meaningful community service. This form of learning emphasizes critical thinking and personal reflection while encouraging a heightened sense of community, civic engagement and personal responsibility.

Who can participate in a HACC service-learning program?

All current HACC students are eligible to apply for participation in a service-learning program.

How many credits can I earn?
Service-learning courses are not to be confused with academic courses and therefore do not earn academic credits.

Scholarships of $300 are available to students who qualify and demonstrate financial need. Apply for this scholarship here (pdf).

What service-learning programs are available right now?
HACC's service-learning program in Appalachia-Williamson, WV has been canceled due to low enrollment.  Check back again for information on upcoming service-learning programs that could be proposed for the spring 2015 term.
