Student Right To Know

Student Goals at HACC
As part of its mission, HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College serves a diverse student body from recent high school graduates seeking a degree, to older adults returning to the classroom to complete a few courses or learn a job-related skill. HACC, like all community colleges, emphasizes the importance of lifelong learning in addition to the obtainment of traditional degrees.

Continuing Education and Training
Some students enroll at HACC for one or two courses, to pursue a special interest, or learn a new job skill. These students do not seek degrees, but realize the value of enhancing their education and employability.

Transferring Before Earning a Degree
Many students who begin at HACC with the goal of earning a college degree actually transfer their HACC credits to another institution before completing a HACC degree. Of the students who first entered HACC in the Fall of 2000, more than half (63%) of the fulltime students came with the intention of transferring without first graduating from HACC.

Student Right-to-Know
In compliance with the Student Right-to-Know and Campus Security Act of 1990, it is the policy of HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College to make available its completion and transfer rates to all current and prospective students.

Three-Year Graduation Rates
Graduation rates do not represent the success rates of the entire student population at HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College, nor do they account for student outcomes occurring after this three-year tracking period.

Based on the cohort of all full-time degree-seeking students who entered HACC for the first time in Fall 2000, 35.3% either graduated from HACC by the Fall of 2003 or transferred to another institution without first graduating from HACC. Of this cohort, 15.9% graduated from HACC by July 2003, 19.4% transferred to another institution by July 2003, and 15.9% were enrolled at HACC in the Fall 2003 semester.

Three-year completion rates at HACC are very similar to those reported by the other community colleges in Pennsylvania. Thee-year graduation rates for the Fall 1999 class of new full-time students averaged 18.6% among the fourteen community colleges in the state.
