Ceramics Camp Hill Dr. Robert Toyakazu Troxell was born in Osaka, Japan. His mother, a geisha, and father, a Pennsylvania German soldier, taught him how to balance opposing world-views. Robert uses hard edge forms reminiscent of Russian constructivist’s art of the early twentieth century art and vivid colors from the world of Japanese wood block prints. Trained as both a printmaker and ceramicist, he balances and intermingles techniques of printmaking and clay. His slab built teapots use the Japanese form of the “geta”, a wooden sandal with large raised wooden cleats used to navigate the muddy streets of pre-industrial Japan. | |
